Gantt and pert charts

Gantt charts and PERT charts are useful tools for visualizing and communicating information about projects.

• Gantt charts present information in format of a bar chart. This presentation shows the percentage of work completed for each task.
• Gantt chart displays the start and end date of for project activities and their overall project schedule.
• Gantt chart shows dependencies between project activities and their completion rate.
• In Gantt charts, the focus is on percentage completion of each task, without demonstrating the link that two tasks may have to each other.
• Gantt charts present project tasks and time allocation as the only two pieces of data.
• Gantt charts are easier to change, as a task moves along and it comes closer to completion.

• PERT charts displays information as network model.  It presents an initial node from which task branch out.
• It visualize the sequence of tasks, as you cannot start on the next activity/task until the preceding one is completed.
• PERT does not show the percentage completed, because it employs a network model. It is easy to see which tasks depend on each other.
• PERT charts includes project tasks and time allocation, display dependency.
• Tasks in PERT charts will have three representative time structures: optimistic, most likely, and pessimistic.
